Edward Scissorhands protecting powerlines

Rate payers and insurance clients pay a high price when trees damage property but it is an avoidable cost. Brisbane City Council continues to plant trees in locations that appear inappropriate due to powerlines or lack of space. Even Council projects pay a price. The Mt Gravatt East Pool contractor had to protect five huge gum trees on Newnham Road. They belong in the local bush where they can look spectacular but not create risks. Mt Gravatt East Pool has a shorter pool deck than was required just to protect a gum tree. The Contractor earned bonus payments having to change plans on the run so it was no issue for them. The trees have made a mess on Newnham Road for years, laying a slippery carpet of leaves on a steep footpath.

At the back of Tones Road at Mansfield it is scary to see how close the large trees have grown up amonst the powerlines. Bouncing around during the storms could create a dangerous situation.

A huge gum crashed to the ground during a recent storm right outside the city hall. Someone had fun spraying orange highlighter on the post.
