I had the best time today. After Church I try to make it to the Access Street Church - up to 50 came in four vans today from Pindari, Ozcare and various boarding houses.
There's a few songs and motivation - but a focus on building them up, praying with them to achieve their potential. We share a fabulous lunch prepared by hardworking volunteers.
Some regulars are doing so well getting their life on track and are appreciative of the efforts by the different groups and churches to help meet their needs.
Reg and I skip out on the washing up and go to Greenmeadow Lodge, next to the Metropol.
It provides supported accommodation for up to 150 people with disabilities.
We do "church" in their tv room and today was quite a record with more than 35 attending and being interactive and involved.
Jerry Exton has a few "story songs" which they love, he has some backup singers and Bernie is an awesome air guitarist. Reg sings and shares something relevant to build them up and encourage them. He builds interaction which can create some interesting moments but no one would ever fall asleep.
One of several classic moments today when Reg asked them to tell us about a dream they have for their life ... one lady wants a house on a hill with a few sheep in the paddock, another wants a house near the beach.
"What about you Michael?"
"I'd like a packet of chippies please."
Everyone cracked up because they all try to help enforce his diet and not give him cake.
35 people, and each so amazingly different.
To see them so focussed and involved on the same day was incredible.
Wonderful people, very accepting and appreciative of any effort to encourage them and brighten their day. I was passing later in the day, it was hard to get away during their meal, a wonderful lady prepares weekend meals and serves residents so kindly.
