A $9 billion view ... from the now completed Balance Tank on Mt Petrie gravity feeding treated sewerage to Ipswich then on to Wivenhoe Dam.
Labor hopefuls were out in force to leave their mark on history as a final section of the recycled sewerage pipeline was buried at Gibson Island today. Candidates for the upcoming State election were required to be part of a photo opportunity with their favourite Minister rolling green paint on their safety boot. Campaign photos of Labor hopefuls leaving a green footprint on the environment will be used in glossy election brochures. A Government PR consultant reminded media reps to point out that "Ronan Lee does not have his green footprint being buried in history as part of a $9 billion water project and, ... Labor candidates have their own pair of safety boots, goggles and hard hat for green infrastructure photo ops."
"We continue delivering projects ahead of time. By adding two months to timelines means we can use 'ahead of schedule' media stunts. This project impacted the local community and while we hope scars on the landscape heal within 5 years we won't divert water from storage tanks to speed up the process, that would mean less treated sewerage being pumped into the dam," the consultant explained.
The government used the news to plug how essential the Travesty Dam will be for Queensland. If I was cynical ... and I'm not ... I would suggest a face saving path of escape would be to let Peter Garrett rejects the proposal so state labor can shed crocodile tears, point the finger at the big bad Federal Government and "reluctantly" scrap the Travesty Dam.
