F for 50 unsuccssful ideas in one year

I am headed for at least 50 unsuccessful suggestions for the City Council ... in one year ... Here are some, no particular order ...

Sensible Right Turn Pockets
Significant damage to traffic islands along Creek Road and at least 10 roundabouts demonstrate that a more appropriate intersection strategy is needed. Motorists put themselves and others at risk mounting islands to enter unnecessarily short right turn pockets. Traffic is frustrated and congested as vehicles block through lanes trying to turn right or left.

Build longer left turn and merging lanes.
Hundreds of intersections could have a sensible left turn lane and merging lane away from the intersection to disperse traffic and keep through traffic flowing.

Large traffic islands at busy intersections
The practice of large traffic islands at the busiest intersections frustrates traffic and reduces opportunties to clear congestion. Mt Gravatt Capalaba Road has one of the best examples. Another lane through the intersection could have been provided, for example, limited to vehicles with three passengers, to reward those who car pool.

Creek Road Traffic Island - a few hours effort - even with volunteers could help cover the rocks that sabotage the efforts of the mowing and whipper snipping team. Ugly areas as a result of the lack of maintenance could be rehabilitated with trees. Council spent more than $12,000 building a rock wall in one section, when the same money could have had new trees planted the length of the Creek Road Islands that have been neglected.
15 years ago, Creek Road had an impressive display of bottlebrush, now it is embarassing.
A brick on the island outside the Metropol has a voucher attached offering a free McDonalds coffee to the person who finally removes it from its resting place for more than one year. Or, I might just do some civil disobedience, remove it and claim the coffee myself.

Seed bombing - Mobilise children to mix native species seed with compost and clay and disperse the seed bombs into large areas of degraded land or where the lantana and weeds have taken over. (You Tube Seed bombing to see the exciting concept.)

Carindale Westfield Shopping Centre - Rehabilitate the traffic island they made look so ugly with the overhead bridge.

Old Cleveland Road and Creek Road Intersection - The opportunity for hundreds of trees to be planted, large areas of rocks to be covered with grass and mulch has been an ongoing request for years to rehabilitate an eyesore.

Extra pedestrian and bike crossings - Bulimba Creek
Providing more options for people to access things they need by bike or foot will keep cars off the road. Wecker Road will have hundreds of extra vehicles so keeping children off the road as much as possible should be a priority.

Park and Wait near schools
Identify strategic places to build car parks that provide increased safety. A dangerous unpaved car park in Tones Road, used as a parking lot for Council equipment could be paved and opened for school drop offs and weekend football parking. Encouraging children to walk has many advantages. "Time out" from the stress of getting ready, or a hard day at school, extra physical challenge, reducing traffic needing to stop right in front of the school for a drop off and pickup. Those who can't walk to school the whole distance should be encouraged to walk the last 600 metres.
