LNP recognises rail security challenges

LNP will double the number of "Senior Network Officers" on public transport in a further crackdown on anti-social behaviour. They are "about" to start recruiting. Hello? Why has it taken so long to recognise the problem? Oh, because they needed a more "efficient public transport network" before they could "invest" in security and safety for passengers.
There are 64 rail squad staff to conduct blitzes on fare evasion and antisocial behaviour.
Bowen Hills train station has been locked down six times this year as part of an effort to stop people ripping off honest public transport users.
Lockdown operations across Bowen Hills, Beenleigh and Ipswich train stations fined 200 people, with 175 additional warnings handed out for fare evasion and nuisance behaviour.
LNP says she is serious about fare evasion and anti-social behaviour. In 2012 she conducted blitzes on 34 school bus routes targeting anti-social behaviour.
4300 Gold Coast students were intercepted with 311 names recorded for failing to pay a fare and a pathetic 30 warning notices handed out.
Future secret undercover operations across the network are planned.
22,000 fines of $220 were given away during 2012
19,000 of those fines were for fare evasion.
LNP will not reveal how many fines were paid.
How many honest citizens were appreciated for doing the right thing?
Money LNP wastes on silly advertising to distract motorists on busy roads could be directed into clear, readable messages acknowledging those who do the right thing.
We need to reclaim goodwill in society, overpower the anti-social with positive, peaceful action.
Groups of positive volunteer citizens traveling together peacefully on public transport during trouble times to encourage and assure those who have no choice but to be on the train or bus would make a difference.
Secret operations contribute to a cyncical attitude towards authority.
Sneaking around, spying on people reduces respect when it needs to be restored and valued.
