I would stretch it out as long as possible if my team was in government.
Keep doing the good that you put your hand up for till the last possible date for an election. Selecting the date based on when you can manipulate a return to power fills me with dread that they do not get it. My observation is that Ellen Pea's team do not want the challenge of government. Throwing the occasional grenade from opposition is easier than making the tough decisions.
I suspect that Lawrence is a great person, a loving Dad and husband, but his strategy seems to be keeping himself a small target so Labor gets kicked out rather than working to win the election. He gives the impression of being there out of despair that no one else wants the job.
Winning government by default rather than having a team busting to get into government to change things is a poor outcome. A government self destructing and losing power does not seem to guarantee the standby team making the best decisions.
