A History of Brisbane Botanic Gardens with Dr Jeannie Sims20.11.08
Thursday 20 November 10am @ QUT Art Museum
From humble beginnings as an agricultural reserve for the Moreton Bay Penal Colony in 1828, the Brisbane City Botanical Gardens have grown into a major feature of the city since their official opening in 1855. Dr Jeannie Sim, Senior Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at QUT, will discuss the fascinating history of this local landmark, which has experienced eight floods over its 150 year lifetime, and the important agricultural introductions that have taken place here, such as the first pineapple, tobacco, and coffee plants to be planted in Queensland.
Followed by morning tea with lamingtons. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Replant: A New Generation of Botanical Art.
