Reading that a petition lodged with the Council about Blackberry Street came as a surprise.
Council was requested to act on allegations of criminal behaviour and safety concerns about the behaviour of drivers.
The resolution will be painting yellow lines on the road to reinforce the 10 metre no parking rule in the vicinity of the park entrance.
I visit Blackberry St parklands at least twice a week but had not been aware of a problem.
The Muslim community at one stage was using the park some Sunday afternoons, and junior cricket clubs on a Saturday morning. Otherwise, the most traffic I see is people walking and riding bikes, or workers stopping for lunch breaks. (Which is great - adds to the security and appreciation of the area.)
Suggestions of speed platforms and banning parking in Blackberry St were not an acceptable solution for the Council.
While living so close to a wonderful parkland is something residents would appreciate, the downside is anti-social actions of a few people. The worst thing that could happen is for people to avoid or bad mouth an area if they perceive there is poor behaviour, that's letting the selfish people win.
