After 8 months it is time for Ellen Pea to move on and stop regurgitating from its "How Bad Was Labor" quotebook. Just get on with it.
The Department of Housing and Public Works does not miss a chance to remind us how tough it is managing social housing - because of the Labor waste.
It claims it has a duty of care to the "vulnerable".
Ellen Pea claims she is not in the caravan park business and wants to sell three parks paying their own way and keeping dozens of people out of public housing.
Governments should be in the people business.
A fancy golf course is proposed for land close to the caravan park. Would Ellen Pea assure Queensland people that the lobbyists, developers and backroom dealers have not influenced her decision to sell off Monte Carlo Caravan Park? Mr Flegg is no longer the Housing Minister but there were issues with lobbyists and developers that should be open for scrutiny.
Housing poorly managed
Because allocations of public housing are made based on an
applicant’s level of need, rather than on the amount of time they have
been waiting, anyone who isn’t categorised as high or very high needs
could be left waiting for years if not decades.
Dr Flegg said the current crisis was down to the former government’s failure to properly manage the housing portfolio.
“Labor left Queensland with 30,000 households on the public housing
waiting list, no money for new houses and a housing fund that was losing
a million dollars a fortnight,” he said.
“Labor’s solution was to start selling houses to cover the shortfall, further decreasing the already inadequate supply.”
Dr Flegg said he was determined to fix Labor’s mess.
“We’ve already taken steps to address under-occupancy and identify rent dodgers. Now we need to start working with the non-government housing sector to increase the supply of suitable properties.
Dr Flegg said an urban renewal initiative currently underway in Logan
was the first step in a revolutionary model of social housing which
would eventually be rolled out across the state.

Mr Flegg's public relationer at the time was Ellen Pea mate, Graeme Hallett.
The new Housing Minister has been silent on the fate of the caravan park home owners so poorly treated by Ellen Pea.
