Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott had the opportunity to communicate with thousands of Christians ahead of the Federal election at the ACL's Make It Count forum.
(Well at least Labor strategists were counting, plotting! Not surprising the former PM had to make a quick exit after his presentation and a few questions.)
Tony Abbott appeared guarded, cautious, running his responses through the 'how will the media elite be twisting what I say?" filter. Kevin Rudd could talk on any topic, provide history lessons on any number of topics.
The evening brought back memories of 1996 when I put my hand up as a Senate candidate.
I had an opportunity to make a pitch, for five minutes, with the Christian Outreach Centre Church, (in the same building) alongside the candidate for Griffith. He was a flash speaker, ambitious, determined.
I left the ACL forum thinking how the outcomes were so different. Kevin Rudd presumably entrenched for years as Prime Minister, and me, assisting a groundsman, picking up rubbish and looking after chooks at a school in his electorate.
The main reason I attended the forum was to continue a search for a solution to Omar's situation. Omar's local MP and his office have understandably been focussed on important issues so no success.
