Hervey Bay History Lesson - Pier saved by community action

Amazing Sunset from the famous Urangan Pier

The Hervey Bay community demonstrated how effective local action can stop Government proposals that the community rejects.
When a conservative government wanted to keep pulling down Hervey Bay's famous Pier, the community got organised and stopped further dismantling of the infrastructure.
Hundreds of people enjoy a walk along the pier on a daily basis.
A government proposal to build the Traveston Dam near Gympie is still the subject of community action to prevent devastation of the Mary River.
