A new year gift for Creek Road ...
Early in 2013 I am hoping 10 volunteers will give just one hour to clear weeds and vines from the Creek Road footpath at Cannon Hill.
Council resources are stretched so thin that potentially great trees in the vicinity of Richmond Road are being strangled by vines.
Independent mowing contractors have a huge task just doing the basics. It is a massive task - just in that small area. Time to give them a hand.
Contractors are forbidden from removing branches and obstacles, they go around them.
The Creek Road guard rail has been hidden for years and it is time to set it free.
Council recently planted 50 eucalypt trees on the Creek Road median strip.
They installed potentially dangerous metal stakes to help the mowing team realise there is a one metre high gum tree growing.
I don't agree in attracting koalas on to a busy thoroughfares.
Koala trees should be planted in the bush, where they can reach their potential without regular trimming, maintenance and not be a safety risk during wild storms.
The Rotary Club has taken responsibility to keep Creek Road free from Rubbish as part of a Keep Australia Beautiful program.
I hope they will see the benefit of removing bags of rubbish, weeds, pest plants contributing to the ugliness of Creek Road.
Trees currently being strangled will start speaking to say thanks and motorists might enjoy seeing beautiful Australian trees reaching their potential.
Construction of a golf club in the vicinity will include significant buffer zones of bush. Having been used as a dump for so long the area will require massive amounts of work but each small step makes a difference.
