Praise be ... LNP Government wants open government

Labor's chamber of secrets slammed.

Public Relationer for Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie says he has launched a "scathing" attack on the Opposition for refusing to release Cabinet documents pertaining to funding for Legal Practitioner Interest on Trust Accounts Fund (LPITAF).

Matthew Johnston says Mr Bleijie has "slammed" Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk (ouch) for declining his request for Cabinet documents on a review of LPITAF conducted by the former Labor Government.

I want to know what the Opposition has got to hide and why it feels the need to keep this information from the people of Queensland,” Mr Johnston reports Mr Bleijie telling him.

“The former Labor Government conducted a financial review of LPITAF and has refused to release the details. If openness and transparency is the Opposition Leader’s new catch cry, then she needs to show some "decency" and hand over the review and its findings.

“The Labor Party was "notorious" for rushing documents into their chamber of secrets to hide their own financial mismanagement and mistreatment of the State.

“Now, as this Government tries to clean up the "mess" they left, the Opposition Leader has decided to keep the documents hidden away from the people of Queensland.

“We are currently conducting a review of LPITAF, but we could save time and tax payers’ money if the Opposition released these documents and the information was readily available. If the Opposition Leader was willing to do some ‘soul searching and hand over the health payroll documents, why not show the same decency and help protect the future of the fund?

“Community legal centres play a vital role in delivering frontline services to the community and the Oppositions not doing these groups any favours by hiding behind its usual veil of secrecy. The sooner the review is completed and we have a complete understanding of the situation, the sooner we can provide more resources for these groups.
